City staff reported on June 26 that 14 new signs were installed as part of an east-phase sign project intended to refresh Moraine's branding and wayfinding.
"We're we're aiming at 10 years, hopefully, on a 10 year cycle," said Nick, a city staff member, when asked about durability. He said the new signs are aluminum, sealed, mounted on new u-channels and 4-by-4 posts to improve longevity compared with older wooden signs that showed peeling and cracking.
City staff said the signs support the city's comprehensive plan and branding efforts; photos were circulated to council and will be posted to the city's Facebook page. Council members and staff discussed that exposure to sun and weather can cause variable wear and that some signs installed might age faster depending on location.
The project is administrative; no council vote or additional funding was recorded during the meeting. Staff indicated the signs are intended to reduce maintenance compared with the prior wooden signs and to tie into future wayfinding work for parks and historical markers.
