Sweetwater County commissioners unanimously adopted the county’s fiscal year 2026 budget during a special meeting on June 26, 2025.
Accounting specialist Rebecca Romero told the Board the proposed budget reflected “all the approved changes and the priorities discussed throughout the budget process” and that it “keeps us focused on responsibility service and long term planning.” The board opened a public hearing; no members of the public spoke and the hearing was closed.
The adoption provides the county the authority to levy income necessary to finance the budget for fiscal year 2026, as set out in the resolution included in the commissioners’ meeting packet. Commissioner Richards moved to adopt the resolution; Commissioner Jones seconded. The motion passed unanimously with a 5-0 vote.
Commissioners said there had been no changes to the proposal since the last budget workshop, according to Romero. During the meeting the chair noted a separate discussion about a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) that had been tabled at a prior meeting; commissioners said they will place the COLA item on the agenda for the board’s meeting next Tuesday for further action.
The board thanked Romero and county staff for their work preparing the budget. With the adoption complete and no further business, the chair adjourned the special meeting.
