The Rutland Regional Planning Commission presented a draft natural resources chapter as part of an update to its regional plan and invited members of the meeting to review and comment using an online poll.
Sarah Palke, identified herself as "community development director for the town of Poultney" and noted that the draft plan is posted on the Commission’s website and that the current phase of public engagement includes a short, two‑question poll. The draft chapter reflects statutory goals to maintain and improve air, water, wildlife, forests and other land resources and addresses themes of healthy, equitable and resilient communities.
The chapter language the presenter summarized includes policy aims to avoid fragmenting high‑priority interior forest blocks and wildlife corridors, to encourage municipal water‑quality monitoring, and to minimize negative impacts from extraction activities, including timely remediation. The presenter said the chapter will reference Act 250 and encourage municipalities to use municipal plans and zoning ordinances to implement these policies.
The presenter urged stakeholders to review the draft plan and take the phase‑three poll; staff said the packet circulated to commission members contains chapter summaries and links to the online materials. No formal vote was required; the item was informational and meant to solicit public feedback.
