County approves dispatch tech renewals, Motorola 911 system and sheriff's drone purchase

Actions approved included: a five-year RapidSOS agreement for central dispatch with annual installments of $26,300 and a total contract value of $131,500; a five-year renewal for the Motorola Emergency Call Works (ECW) 9-1-1 phone system at annual installments of $24,257.40; a three-year preventative maintenance agreement for central dispatch air-conditioning units totaling $12,004; and authorization for the sheriff's department to purchase three drones, not to exceed $30,000, charged to line item 207-301-977.000.
Why it matters: RapidSOS and Motorola ECW are tools used to route and enrich 9-1-1 calls and location data; the board's approvals keep public-safety communications and infrastructure funded for multiple years. Commissioners emphasized that these items will be paid from specific departmental line items and said there will be no additional charge to the county general fund.
Several purchases were moved, supported and approved by voice vote. The administration will process agreements and the chair was authorized to sign on behalf of the county where required.
Commissioners and staff noted these are multi-year commitments and that funds for the contracts are budgeted in the indicated line items. The agreements will require routine budget monitoring during annual budget cycles.
