The Jefferson County Regional Planning Commission concluded that an indoor sports training facility proposed for the vacant Family Dollar building at the 424 exit is an allowable use in the county's C‑2 general commercial district.
Planning staff told the commission that the proposed use — batting cages, pitching lanes, turf areas and some weight training — falls under the list of indoor recreation uses allowed in C‑2, which includes arcades, billiards, bowling, skating, movie theaters and indoor firing ranges. "The allowable uses in your C‑2 area, item 7 is indoor recreation uses… so you have something that really is very typical," planning staff explained.
The commission moved and seconded a finding that the indoor sports training facility is an allowed use in C‑2; the motion passed by voice vote.
Ending: Staff and the applicant may proceed with the building and permit process consistent with the applicable site and building codes.
