The Murfreesboro Water Resources Board approved a task order under the existing master services agreement with Smith Segment Reid (SSR) in the amount of $328,385 to design upgrades at several sewer pump stations and prepare the project for bidding.
Staff said they assembled a prioritized “wants and needs” list from operations and maintenance, then bundled work for a handful of pump stations that included Jarnett Lane, Thompson Lane near the Cooper’s Bottom curve, Wilkinson Pike (serving new Clary Park development), smaller stations and the Southwest Regional Station. Staff said much of the work addressed “needs,” including replacement of suction lines that have developed pinholes leading to lost prime conditions and specific upgrades to Wilkinson Pike.
SSR’s task order includes design, bidding documents and construction administration. The board moved, seconded and approved the task order by voice vote.
Why it matters: pump station reliability is critical for sewer system operation; staff said sinking funds and reserves are available to fund pump station replacements and upgrades and that these interventions address recurrent operational failures.
Staff will return with bids at a later date for board approval prior to construction.
