The Sumner County Library Personnel Committee on June 26 voted to forward Emily Higgins as the committee’s recommended candidate for the Hendersonville library director position.
Committee members said Higgins and another finalist, Josh (last name not specified), both showed strong skills during interviews, but several members said Higgins’ outreach-oriented style made her a better fit for Hendersonville’s needs. A motion to forward Higgins’ name to the library board passed by voice vote with no opposition recorded.
The committee discussed the attributes they wanted for the Hendersonville director, describing the role as requiring outreach to local groups and partners, fundraising and public presentations. One committee member said they could “see her doing a presentation at a council meeting” to advocate for the library; another said both finalists would be assets, but that Higgins’ personality and history in the county gave her an edge. Committee members also thanked the other finalist, identified in the meeting as Josh, and encouraged him to continue pursuing library leadership opportunities.
The nomination now goes to the library board (referred to in the meeting as the “school library board”) for final consideration. The committee did not record a roll-call vote; members approved the motion by voice vote.
