Board approves easement with Oklahoma City for Spring Creek Elementary road widening

The Deer Creek school board unanimously approved an easement agreement with the City of Oklahoma City to allow a road-widening project in front of Spring Creek Elementary.

Superintendent Dr. Jason Perez told the board the agenda item was mislabeled — it listed Prairie Vale Elementary — and clarified the paperwork and project relate to Spring Creek Elementary. He said the project includes a planned new fire station adjacent to the school and will require the city to take a portion of an existing easement and sidewalk in front of the school, while maintaining a sidewalk and space for the school marquee.

“We were all out there to kinda look at the space,” Perez said, adding the city hopes to begin work “around December-ish.” He said the district expects some temporary access restrictions during construction: “It's gonna be a nightmare no matter what, and there's gonna be some times where we'll have to close off some of the entry points to Spring Creek.” Perez also said the city may incorporate crosswalk options that could benefit the school.

Officials who visited the site included Jeff Johnson and Miss Edson, according to the superintendent’s remarks. The board’s approval passed 3-0, with board members Kelly Lay, Stanlin Green and Chris Adamson voting yes.
