Board approves student handbooks; academics to streamline and digitize next year

The Dublin City Schools Board of Education approved the second reading of the primary and secondary student handbooks by a 5-0 roll call vote.
Dr. Schwanke, speaking for the Department of Academics and Student Learning, said the current handbooks are "accurate and they are comprehensive as they stand, perhaps too comprehensive." Schwanke told trustees the department will work next year to "reduce much of the text, especially text that's redundant and perhaps repeated when not necessary," and to modernize and digitize the handbooks.
Schwanke said the revision will be a team effort involving the academic team, including Sam Althouse and Mike Uhling, and that the goal is to make the handbooks easier for parents and students to use. The board approved the superintendents recommendation to adopt items 5b and 5c (the second reading of the handbooks) by roll call vote, 5-0.
