BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va. — The Berkeley County Commission on June 26 said it will hold another public hearing on proposed impact fees for new residential construction, scheduling the next hearing for July 2 at 10 a.m. in the commission chambers.
Commissioners held two hearings the prior week — one at 10 a.m. and one at 5 p.m. — and commissioners said the morning session drew few attendees while the evening session drew developers and residents. "We are trying to be as completely transparent as possible and listen to everyone, in regards of the impact fees," a county commissioner said during the June 26 meeting.
The commission chair advised that the additional hearing is intended to give more residents and stakeholders a chance to comment before commissioners consider changes. No vote or ordinance was taken at the June 26 meeting; commissioners said staff and the commission will review the testimony collected at the hearings before any formal action.
Commissioners and staff noted that opinions at the hearings varied, with some developers participating and a mix of residents expressing both support and opposition.
