City posts summer service rules and community events: yard-waste guidance, holiday closures, festivals and markets

On solid-waste and yard waste pick-up, the mayor said July yard-waste pickup will occur the week of July (date not specified). Residents may place grass clippings and leaves in paper yard-waste bags or in loose open barrels with no lid; E. L. Harvey has asked residents not to use cardboard boxes for yard waste. There is no limit to the number of containers or bags residents may put out, but each container or bag must weigh less than 50 pounds; bundles must be six or fewer and each piece no larger than 2 inches in diameter or 3 feet long. If yard waste is not removed by the end of the scheduled day, residents should call E. L. Harvey's call center within 48 hours at +1 803213002, the mayor said.
The transfer station and City Hall will be closed Friday, July 4 and the transfer station also on Saturday, July 5; City Hall will reopen Monday, July 7 at 8 a.m.
The mayor highlighted several community events: the Garden of Food Truck Festival on Saturday, July 12 from noon to 7 p.m.; a weekly Monument Park concert series beginning the weekend noted (first concert with Dave Malloyne at 6 p.m., rain date Sunday, June 29 at 2 p.m.); the next Gardner Farmer's Market on July 19 at the Waterford Community Center, 62 Waterford Street, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and National Night Out on Aug. 7 at 5:30 p.m. at Gardner High School (contact: Veronica Patty at vpatty@gardner-ma.gov). The mayor also noted the annual Tri City Takeover Day for the Worcester Red Sox at Polar Park on July 2; Gardner residents who buy tickets will have a portion of the ticket cost donated to the Gardner CAC (other municipalities' residents' ticket donations go to their local nonprofits, the mayor said).
