Monroe County Soil & Water to host first Conservation Day at county fair July 3

Monroe County Soil and Water Conservation District officials announced on June 26 that the district will host the county’s first Conservation Day at the Monroe County Fair on Thursday, July 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Draper Earl Auditorium.
Martha Miller and Erica Eason said the event will gather conservation-minded groups, agencies and businesses in five focus areas: forestry, sustainable food production, grazing and livestock, production agriculture, and yards and lawns. Confirmed partners listed during the meeting included Friends of Lake Monroe, Indiana Sentinel Landscape and Conservation Law Center, Bluestone Tree, Monroe County Master Gardeners, Monroe County Farm Bureau, Lake Monroe Water Fund, Indiana Department of Agriculture Division of Soil, Monroe County Stormwater, Monroe County Parks, Hoosier National Forest, Monroe County Waste Reduction District, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, USDA Farm Service Agency and Monroe County Purdue Extension.
Organizers said there will be identifying signs for each focus area, activities for children, door prizes funded in part by the Monroe County Farm Bureau, and that additional groups can register via the county website or the Soil and Water Facebook page. The event is free and aimed at connecting residents with local conservation resources.
Soil and Water staff invited commissioners and the public to attend and to contact the district through the county website for participation details.
