District reports playground construction, Anderson signage and summer program enrollment figures
Summary
Business and educational services reported Mitchell Playground under construction (scheduled completion Aug. 15), Anderson Elementary’s California Distinguished School signage installed, and summer Wrap program enrollment at about 1,028 with a wait list and 35 families reporting social-environment concerns.
Superintendent Dr. Sabrina Castro provided facilities and program updates during her report to the board.
Castro said the Mitchell Playground project is currently under construction, the site fenced off, and work is scheduled for completion by Aug. 15 to be ready for the 2025–26 school year. She noted the work could be viewed from Condon (a nearby road) and attributed the update to the business department.
Castro also reported the California Distinguished School logo was recently installed at Anderson Elementary "earlier this week," and that district teams were proud to display the recognition.
From educational services, Castro reported summer Wrap program enrollment: the district had anticipated about 1,125 enrollments and was serving about 1,028 students at the time of the report. Some grade levels have wait lists and the district is contacting families to offer enrollment at alternate sites. Castro said about 35 families reported concerns about the social environment, and the district is providing at-home packets and outreach so those students can participate when ready.
Castro framed the SELPA RFP outcome and business- and HR-related updates as part of a broader summer effort to prepare for the school year; no formal board action was required for these operational updates.
