Young Farmers program, Farm Bureau members describe stewardship and career pathways

"I am a product of Chesterfield County," said Diaz Tompkins, identifying himself as a long‑term county resident and Young Farmers participant.
Tompkins described early involvement in 4‑H and Farm Bureau activities and said those programs taught stewardship, business skills and leadership. He said Farm Bureau is a member‑based, nonpartisan organization and that the Young Farmers and Ranchers arm focuses on people aged 18 to 35 with goals of education, networking and leadership development.
Tompkins recounted practical experiences that led to paid opportunities and exchange work; he said he recently spent three months in Chile working with that country’s extension service and earlier had opportunities to assist on a film production because of his equine and farm skills. He credited local mentors and county extension staff for ongoing support.
His remarks were offered as a testimonial and informational comment; no board action or county funding request accompanied the statement.
