SELPA superintendents council unanimously keeps Lawndale as Administrative Unit

Superintendent Dr. Sabrina Castro told the board that the SELPA superintendents council held a request-for-proposals process for the Administrative Unit (AU) and that Lawndale's proposal was selected by a unanimous vote to remain as the AU.
Castro said Torrance had sought to become the AU and that Lawndale submitted a competing proposal. "It was a unanimous vote that Lawndale should remain as the AU," Castro said, and she acknowledged district staff — specifically naming Dr. Ho, Monique and Luis — for preparing the proposal.
Castro said keeping the AU matters both financially and for continuity of services: it would have been a financial hit to lose the AU, and the district wanted to maintain relationships and services for SELPA staff and the students they serve. Castro said the choice was not only about money but also "the human factor" and the services the district provides.
Later in remarks from board members, Dr. Ho's extra work preparing responses and completing fiscal-crisis-management training was recognized; Castro noted Dr. Ho completed a CBO induction program certificate.
