Sierra Vista police designate no‑parking fire lane at Sears Center Park to improve emergency access

Scott Borgstaff of the Sierra Vista Police Department told KWCD’s First Watch that the city has designated the north side of Sears Center Drive near the soccer fields as a no‑parking fire lane and will begin an education period before issuing citations or towing.
Borgstaff said a city study identified safety concerns where parked cars left insufficient room for fire apparatus to reach the fields and created an increased risk of children darting between vehicles into traffic. “When people park there … there’s literally no room for fire apparatus to get down there in an emergency,” he said.
The police department will distribute flyers during an initial education period and patrol the area; officers warned that future enforcement may include tickets or towing under the applicable city statute, and noted a fine of up to $50 on the city flyer. Borgstaff said the city installed red curbing to mark the fire lane and that alternative parking is available about 300 meters away, including a larger lot on North Avenue.
“Safety is always gonna outweigh the convenience,” Borgstaff said, and he encouraged drop‑off for those who cannot walk the short distance from the nearer lots.
