Council approves volunteer project to draft interpretive signs for Crafton trails

Crafton Borough Council voted to permit a volunteer, Nancy Korbel, to research and draft interpretive signage for the borough’s Crafton trails.

Manager Price told council Korbel — a participant in the Pennsylvania Master Naturalist program — will provide the research and sign text as a volunteer; the borough would need to raise funds to produce and install signs. Council amended the motion during debate to clarify funding expectations and then approved the volunteer research project.

Councilors noted grant funding could be sought for fabrication and installation and that the borough could revisit funding decisions if a grant became available. The motion authorizes Korbel to work with the borough on sign content covering topics such as local watershed, plants, wildlife and history; it does not obligate the borough to purchase or install signage without separate appropriation or a funding source.
