Morgantown officials say four bids received for demolition package; City Council to consider award July 1

The Land Use and Preservation Agency reported that the city received four qualified bids for bid 2025-16 and that Morgantown City Council will consider awarding the contract at its July 1 public hearing.

The item matters because the demolitions relate to three city priority properties the agency has been tracking and because the timing affects when sites will be cleared and available for follow-up work. Agency members asked when work would start if council approved the award; staff said a preconstruction meeting will be scheduled and the contractor will be given notice to proceed once contract documents are signed. "I think the completion date is towards the August. Okay. That that takes 30 to 45 days to complete the demolition work," a staff speaker said.

Agency members clarified that the bid covers the three properties described in the packet and that adding additional properties would require a separate bidding process. No formal action by the agency was required at the meeting; the item was informational and will move to City Council for its decision on July 1.

The agency also noted that demolition timing and coordination depend on contract execution and preconstruction scheduling; the agency did not record a completion date beyond the contractor's estimated 30–45 day window. The agency did not vote on awarding the contract at this meeting; council consideration is the next formal step.

Agency staff said additional details, including the contractor selection, will be available after the July 1 council hearing.
