Yukon Main Street schedules Edge workshop and launches small-business grant as city records 13 May business licenses

Yukon Route 66 Main Street has scheduled its annual Edge entrepreneurial workshop for Aug. 21 to encourage business starts and expansion along the Main Street corridor, and the board said a business grant approved in April is now accepting applications.
"This year's topic will be raising or starting a business in community and how community can help you," said Darren Barr, economic vitality point chair. Barr said invitations are going out to speakers and that the event will begin around 6 p.m.
The board also reported the business grant approved at its April meeting has launched and staff are recruiting applicants who want help starting a business in Yukon. "If you know of anyone who is intending to start a business here in Yukon, please let me know," Barr said.
Danielle O'Neil, speaking for city staff, added that the city's business license report for May showed 13 licenses (a mix of renewals and new licenses) and that several development items remain active before the planning commission and city council. "For the month of May, our business license report comes in at, 13 licenses," O'Neil said.
Board members encouraged prospective entrepreneurs to attend the Edge workshop to learn about starting up and about available incentives. No formal board vote or new funding allocations were recorded during the meeting; updates were provided as informational reports.
Organizers said more detailed application information for the business grant is available from Main Street staff.
