Cape Girardeau 63 board amends 2024-25 budget, adopts 2025-26 budget

The Board of Education of CAPE GIRARDEAU 63 voted June 23 to amend the 2024-25 budget and to adopt the district’s 2025-26 budget.

The amendment adjusts the 2024-25 general fund to reflect actual revenues, expenditures and transfers through June 30, 2025; the board then adopted the 2025-26 budget as presented by district staff. Both measures passed by voice vote with no opposition recorded.

Miss Duedek, the district finance officer, told the board the district began the year with $22,100,000 in the general fund. She said revenues received were $45.3 million and expenditures were $25.8 million (figures presented by the district). The amendment includes transfers of $8,100,000 to the special revenue fund to cover teacher salaries and benefits and $1,900,000 to the capital projects fund, which she said “is the amount that is allowed by DESE.” The district reported an estimated ending balance of $21,800,000 and an ending fund balance percentage of 34.97; Duedek noted a roughly $294,000 difference between projected and actual figures.

Board members said they reviewed the budgets in an earlier session before the consent vote. The motions to amend the 2024-25 budget and to adopt the 2025-26 budget were approved by voice vote; the record shows the chair called for “all those in favor? Aye,” and then declared the motions carried.

The amendment record notes it is intended to reflect final figures through June 30, 2025, and the adopted 2025-26 budget will guide district spending for the coming school year beginning July 1.

The board did not record an individual roll-call tally in the meeting minutes provided; no member was recorded as opposing either budget action.
