The Community Development Director told the Centerville Planning Commission on June 25 that the City Council has approved the municipal budget, which funds the city’s operations and the planning program for the coming year. The director said the approval means the planning commission’s work is funded while the council continues discussions about next year’s budget.
The director also said a body-art and permanent cosmetics matter is scheduled for the City Council meeting on July 1; staff have received a letter that is being handled with legal counsel and that the item has already been advertised for public hearing. “The City Council did approve your budget,” the director said. The director added that further details on the body-art matter are confidential and can be discussed offline with staff.
Staff also told commissioners to expect a planned development overlay (PDO) conceptual site plan and PDO request at the planning commission meeting on July 9. The director described the PDO process as two steps: first the commission and council review the conceptual plan and PDO overlay for proof of concept, then the applicant returns with a preliminary subdivision and the process restarts to carry the PDO into final approvals. Staff said the project has been under internal review for more than a year and that a development review committee meeting with department heads, the city attorney and city engineer is scheduled Monday to continue staff verification.
During the update staff briefly corrected the spelling of a new business name referenced at a previous meeting, clarifying the local ice-cream vendor is “Milk Barn.” The director reported positive community reception to the vendor; commissioners exchanged informal comments but no action was taken.
The director closed by reminding the commission that the next planning commission meeting is July 9 and that the PDO conceptual site plan is likely to appear on that agenda.
