Candidate Greg McCandless interviews for Covenants Committee seat; board defers interviews to July 10

Greg McCandless, who described himself as an "original Restonian," introduced himself to the Reston Association Board on June 26 as a candidate for a covenants-committee position. He said he lives at the Mercer condominiums, serves on that building’s board and won a three-year term in a recent election. He also said he obtained his CMCA (Community Association Manager) certification and previously worked as a general manager for his building.
In response to a question from Director John Farrell about whether commercial property owners should be held to the same covenant enforcement standards as homeowners, McCandless said he would not differentiate between commercial and residential owners. "To me, a rule is a rule, and it should be followed the same," he said, adding that as a new committee member he would follow the committee’s and board’s direction on the degree of enforcement.
The board thanked McCandless for volunteering. Later in the meeting, the board adopted a motion to defer volunteer interviews for several candidates (including McCandless) to the July 10 agenda.
