Colonial to move student registration to centralized office as state shifts to Infinite Campus

The Colonial School District will centralize student registration at the district office as it transitions from the state——School system to Infinite Campus, staff told the board.
Lauren Wilson, the district—public information officer, and other administrators said the state is phasing out the old system and that Colonial is part of wave 2 of the migration. The district plans to centralize initial registration steps so families building a profile can be served in one place; the timeline discussed was a target window from July 15 to Aug. 1 for establishing the centralized office.
Why it matters: staff warned the transition could cause short-term disruptions in online registration and other back-end services even if the user interface is an improvement. The district posted an informational flyer in board documents and plans to share messages via Facebook, the school website and direct messaging.
Key details: staff said the existing eSchool portal is no longer available for registrations and temporary paper processes are in place. Wilson said wave 1 districts reported a smoother user interface for families but significant technical integration work for district systems (bus routing, IEPs, health records and unit counts). "We have been working about 6 months in earnest with Infinite Campus and DOE and a crack team of leaders from the district, to try to make sure our data is clean," the presentation said.
Board members and student representatives noted Infinite Campus can be preferable from a family perspective but cautioned the startup integration can be difficult. The district will update the board as the conversion progresses and the state provides additional support.
