Lowndes County commissioners approved a five-year renewal of an Axon body-worn camera contract that county staff said will provide upgraded hardware and cover repairs and replacements during the term.
A county presenter identified as Mister Brown described the renewal as a five-year contract for $137,141.49, "which was a 17% increase from the original five year contract due to inflation." Brown said the contract locks the county in through September and that when new body-camera models are released, upgrades are typically included under the agreement.
"Part of the contract, matter of fact, once, September right before September, we'll get a set of new contracts...we constantly get upgraded, a new body cam," Brown said, and added that repairs and replacements are covered without additional cost. Commissioners asked whether animal services or other county departments receive shared benefits under the contract; staff replied there is no additional benefit from other departments' contracts.
Brown also said the current contract includes five cameras under the quoted terms. Commissioners moved and seconded approval; the motion carried with no recorded opposition.
