The Monroe City Council on June 24 voted to waive rules requiring two readings and adopted interim ordinance 015/2025, extending the temporary meeting locations for city council meetings and for boards and commissions through Oct. 5, 2025, while the municipal campus improvement project is completed.
Administrator Knight told the council the current ordinances would otherwise sunset on July 5 and that, without an extension, the city would be forced to notice meetings as special meetings (limiting action to agenda items). The ordinance extends locations for council and boards for 90 days to provide flexibility in case of technical issues in the new council chambers and while staff finishes the municipal campus project.
Council member Walker moved to waive council rules of procedure requiring two readings; Council member Gamble seconded and the council approved the waiver 6-0. Walker then moved to accept first reading and adopt interim ordinance 015/2025 extending the temporary meeting-location designations; Council member Fisher seconded and the ordinance was adopted 6-0.
Why it matters: The extension preserves the city’s ability to hold regular meetings and boards/commission meetings without designating them as special meetings while staff completes the move to the new municipal campus.
