The Lawrence City Council unanimously voted to suspend the rules under council procedure and add a package of items to the agenda as emergencies, then referred the items to the ordinance committee.
Council considered a grouped list of agenda items (item numbers beginning roughly at 266.25 and continuing through 279.25) that included proposals for parking changes (for example: 30-minute parking at 91 Jackson Street; removal of handicap parking spaces; new parking regulations in Lehi School and other neighborhoods), multiple street and event permits, a play date event at Oak Corner Park and a resolution honoring deceased World War II soldiers. The council voted to declare those items emergencies and to send them as a package to the ordinance committee.
A motion to suspend the rules and add the items to the agenda was moved and seconded; the clerk called the roll and the vote was unanimous. The ordinance committee was scheduled to meet the following Wednesday at 7 p.m., and the items were placed on its docket.
Councilors who spoke during the package discussion urged clarity and noted the committee assignment; no substantive debate on individual items occurred in the full-council session where the package was added.
