VDOT outlines July detours, Little Creek Road closure and explains RCUT at 723/460 work

A Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) project manager updated the Nottoway County Board of Supervisors on roadway work that will affect traffic this summer.
Frank French (VDOT) said the U.S. 460 bridge is open and detour signage was being removed, but he outlined two near‑term closures: Route 723 will face a detour related to Phase 3 of the 723/460 corridor project beginning the week after July 23 and expected to last about 30 days, and Route 611 (Little Creek Road) will close, weather permitting, on July 7 for culvert work and sediment removal.

French told the board that crews will refresh pavement markings on several crossovers, complete rural‑rustic surface work on Crystal Lake Road and then resurface Jonesboro Road, and that Whitehurst Paving and other contractors were wrapping resurfacing operations for the season. He also said tree removal for a military‑route roundabout may occur before the seasonal tree‑removal window closes because of endangered‑bat restrictions.
Ending: VDOT staff said they will notify the county and provide detour maps before closures; supervisors asked law enforcement to consider enforcement at the RCUT work zone during construction because the legal speed limit had not been reduced and a permanent speed reduction would require a study and higher‑level approvals.
