Rose said the trucks and construction traffic will damage the road and the school will repair it as needed.
Council and staff discussed how closing the street affects public use and city maintenance. Staff noted that if a street is no longer held out for public use the city would not continue maintenance and that, in some cases, a deed or survey may be required before conveyance. Project timing in the discussion anticipates construction beginning after football season, with closure intended in October following the season.
The council approved a motion authorizing the closure and conveyance; the motion carried by unanimous voice vote. The city attorney and staff advised the council the closing may require a legal deed or survey in the records if the street lacks a clear meets‑and‑bounds description, and that the city and county may need to share surveying costs.
