Board extends Superintendent Dr. Linda Dela Torre's contract through June 30, 2028 after public praise from PTA leaders

The San Marino Unified School District board voted June 24 to approve an amendment extending Superintendent Dr. Linda Dela Torre's employment agreement by one year; the new contract term runs July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2028.

The amendment to the superintendent employment agreement was presented as agenda item 11e. A motion to approve the amendment was made, seconded and carried by unanimous roll call.

Two members of the district's PTA spoke during public comment in support of Dr. Dela Torre before the board acted. Melissa Kelly, speaking on behalf of the PTA, asked the board to retain "one of San Marino School District's most cherished assets, Dr. Linda Dela Torre," and praised her 33 years of experience and leadership. "She doesn't rest on her laurels and works tirelessly, thoughtfully, and intelligently," Kelly said during public comment.

Kim Sutano, speaking after Kelly and identifying herself as a PTA president, echoed the praise and thanked the board and superintendent for their work during the school year.

The staff report on the contract amendment stated the remainder of the superintendent employment agreement would remain unchanged and that the amendment simply extends the term. The board voted to approve the amendment; all trustees present voted aye and the motion carried.

No additional changes to compensation or other contract terms were described during the public presentation.

The board congratulated Dr. Dela Torre following the vote; the superintendent offered brief remarks of gratitude to the board and community.
