A district spokesperson said the $106,000 figure is accurate and covers new band uniforms, storage and protective equipment so items like plumes remain in good condition. Staff said the order includes about 120 uniforms and that the district plans to introduce drum majors and a summer band camp to help students prepare for marching and performances.
Parents at the meeting asked where the uniforms would be housed; administration said they will be stored in district facilities. Board President Robert Traiano Jr. later told the audience the uniforms were measured and the supplier had visited the district; he said the plan is to have uniforms in hand before homecoming.
There was no vote on the purchase at the June 10 meeting as the item was discussed during public comment and agenda Q&A.
Several parents also urged timely delivery of instruments and equipment, saying previous long lead times had delayed instrument receipt.
