Dakota County swears in three commissioners; elects Mike Slavik as chair and Lori Halverson as vice chair

At the Jan. 7 Dakota County Board meeting the ceremonial and organizational portion of the agenda began with administration of the oath of office to three elected commissioners. The Hon. Judge David Knutson administered the oaths to Commissioner Bill Droste (District 4), Commissioner Liz Workman (District 5) and Commissioner Mary Hayman Rowland (District 7).
After the oath, the board conducted organizational business. Commissioner Mike Slavik was nominated and, following a motion and second, elected board chair by roll call. Commissioner Lori Halverson was nominated and elected vice chair by roll call. Both elections passed by unanimous board votes.
Commissioner Slavik, in his first remarks as chair, said he was “very honored to be the 2025 Chair of the Dakota County Board of Commissioners” and emphasized partnerships with cities, school districts, state and federal partners as priorities for the year. The board recessed for a short reception after the organizational items.
