Trustees deliberated on whether the board’s July 8 meeting time was changed properly after several trustees said the start time was moved from 5:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. without a board majority vote.
Trustee Grama raised the concern, saying the meeting time had changed and that board policy requires a majority vote to change the time and place of a regular meeting. District counsel and staff explained the district’s calendar practice: trustees vote on meeting dates when approving the annual calendar, workshops have times set, and officers typically select a start time during the agenda review meeting so the board has adequate time for substantive items. The district advised that the draft agenda presented at the June 24 meeting was the opportunity for trustees to accept or request a formal vote on the time.
Trustee Joe Trapp said he objected to how the change was communicated and emphasized the board policy requirement for majority votes on schedule changes. After discussion, Trustee Tamika Washington moved to add two items to the July 8 agenda: appointment of the board legislative contact and an item on safety and security (including committee chair appointment). Trustee Gary Dennis seconded; the motion passed 7–0.
Staff said the added items would appear on the July 8 draft agenda for formal consideration.
