Trustees declare multiple properties nuisances for excessive vegetation, accumulated debris; staff say enforcement aims for compliance

Delhi Township trustees adopted a set of resolutions at their June meeting declaring multiple properties nuisances for excessive vegetation and accumulated debris, and they emphasized outreach and opportunity for residents in hardship to seek help.

Community Development Director Tony Roach (referred to in the transcript as Director Roach) presented grouped nuisance items so the board could consider several properties in consolidated readings. The resolutions covered seven excessive‑vegetation sites and five addresses flagged for accumulated debris; the board formally introduced and adopted Resolutions 2025‑106 through 2025‑117, dispensed with second readings where requested, and approved the actions by roll call.

Director Roach said staff seeks voluntary compliance first and that the nuisance list shifts as inspectors follow up. “In an attempt to streamline a lot of the nuisance that come through, they're grouped into two groups tonight, vegetation, excessive vegetation, and accumulated debris,” Roach said. Trustees noted staff often works with residents before matters reach the board and that three violations were worked off the list before the meeting.

Trustee Mike Davis cautioned that while the township will assist residents with hardships, willful noncompliance will be enforced and may lead to fines. Roach and administrator Miller confirmed that staff perform morning inspections up to the day of the meeting to ensure the board acts on current violations.

The meeting record shows the board adopted the nuisance resolutions unanimously; Roach and trustees encouraged residents to contact township staff to resolve issues before enforcement actions are required.
