Hampton residents report problems with RecTrac household registrations; township staff says fixes are quick but limited by fraud controls
Summary
Residents described recurring problems with Hampton’s RecTrac recreation registration system for shared‑custody and dual‑household families; township staff said account changes must be performed by staff to guard against fraud and can usually be fixed in minutes, and council asked staff to consider clearer website guidance and a longer‑term fix.

A Hampton resident told council Wednesday that the township’s online registration system, RecTrac, does not handle shared‑custody or dual‑household situations well and asked whether the township will pursue a permanent fix.
Sage Herman Dietzel, who authorized another resident to read her public comment at the meeting, said her daughter could not be found in the system despite prior registrations and that the child’s account was attached to the nonresident parent’s account, complicating residency‑based pricing. "If this is a known issue, why hasn't a solution been put in place?" Dietzel asked in the written statement read to council.
Township staff told council the issue is a limitation of how RecTrac maps households. To reduce fraud—preventing nonresidents from being added to a household and improperly receiving resident rates—staff retain control over household edits. The assistant who responded said staff can usually correct household linkage in "5 to 15 seconds" once the resident contacts the community center, but acknowledged the arrangement frustrates users accustomed to full online account control.
Councilmembers and staff discussed potential short‑ and long‑term responses. Short term, staff said the community center can add guidance to the website or a notice on registration pages explaining that account changes and household edits require calling or visiting the community center. Council also asked staff to explore whether RecTrac settings or vendor options could better support dual heads of household without exposing the system to fraudulent claims.
Staff reported the topic generated significant comment on social media and that several families have faced similar friction. No formal policy change was made; staff advised the resident to call the community center to have the household corrected immediately and to coordinate a longer technical solution review with the vendor.
