Moraga Community Foundation gives $55,000 toward crosswalk to Painted Rock Trailhead

The Moraga Community Foundation on Wednesday presented the town with a $55,000 check to fund a crosswalk and sidewalk improvements intended to provide safer access to the Painted Rock Trailhead.
The donation is a partial payment on an $80,000 commitment toward the project, Rose Avanes, a Moraga Community Foundation board member, told the Town Council. Avanes said Supervisor Candace Anderson and the Livable Communities Trust contributed $25,000 toward the effort and that many individual donors also supported the project.
Avanes said town staff already completed part of the work, with the crosswalk installed and a concrete pad at the trailhead in place. "Thank you to the town staff for making this happen very quickly," she said. Council members thanked the foundation and noted a continuing partnership.
Town officials and foundation representatives posed for a photograph after the presentation. Council members said the public–private partnership has enabled capital work that would otherwise be harder to fund through the town's regular budget.
Council accepted the donation during the meeting; no motion or vote to accept the funds was recorded in the public discussion beyond the presentation and thanks.
The town did not announce a construction completion date for any remaining work or identify other funding sources needed to finish the full $80,000 project.
