Cobb County procurement officials opened bids Thursday for B2312, the Canton Road at Piedmont Road project, and read five submissions and their total bid prices.
The opening matters because the project is a county Department of Transportation construction contract that will be awarded after review of bids and verification of bid bonds and responsiveness.
Daryl Mac Cook of the Cobb County Procurement Services Department read the five bids and the dollar amounts. The firms and totals announced were: Glosson Enterprises, $861,297.25; Umsheath Construction LLC, $875,227.16; Vertical Earth Inc., $902,333.16; Baldwin Paving Company Inc., $976,012.46; and Backbone Infrastructure LLC, $988,936.40. Mac Cook said a bid bond was required for all submissions and that every supplier submitted a bid bond.
The county did not award the contract at the opening. The bid opening is an administrative step that records who responded and the amounts; procurement staff will review the submissions for compliance, verify bonds and references, and return recommendations to the Board of Commissioners or the appropriate contracting authority for award at a later date.
No public commentary or bidder presentations occurred during the opening. The procurement representative closed the session noting the next scheduled county bid opening date.
