Council OKs RFP for prosecution services and hears introduction of recommended police officer

The Stevensville Town Council approved issuing a request for proposals (RFP) for prosecution services for the Stevensville City Court after the current prosecutor, Melanie Desario, notified the town of her resignation.
A council member moved to issue the RFP; the motion passed by a 3–0 vote. During discussion council members asked whether the current city attorney could take on prosecutions; staff reported that the county attorney had declined ongoing coverage, and the town will seek proposals to fill the prosecutorial function.
Separately, the council learned that the police commission interviewed and recommended Otis Ball for appointment as a town police officer. Ball introduced himself to the council and said he has seven years in the county and a military background in explosive ordnance disposal. The council did not take a final hiring vote on the record at the June meeting but the police commission's recommendation was acknowledged.
