The Sierra Vista City Council approved Resolution 2025-054 on June 26 to establish a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the University of Arizona SNAP‑Ed to support a restructured youth council.
Parks staff (Wilson) said the mayor and council had dissolved the prior youth commission on Feb. 27 to pursue a less formal structure and to partner with the University of Arizona SNAP‑Ed. The MOU allows the city to provide resources including marketing, transport to the Arizona League of Cities and National League of Cities conferences, a budget of up to $2,000 per year to pay for up to five participants to attend both conferences, use of city vehicles and city facilities at no charge for youth council activities and fundraising. The university partner will provide quarterly reports to the mayor and council, in‑person briefings, and program guidance while overseeing activities.
Councilmember Angelica Landry thanked staff and councilmembers involved in the effort and moved approval; the council voted to pass the MOU. Councilmembers noted the partnership should enhance efficiency and allow youth to attend conferences and develop civic leadership skills.
Ending: Staff will execute the MOU and coordinate the initial youth council activities and reporting requirements with the University of Arizona SNAP‑Ed.
