City finance staff presented the tentative budget and the council approved Resolution 2025-047 setting the budget cap for fiscal year 2025–26 at $129,244,638.
"The city's fiscal year 2025–26 tentative budget is proposed in the amount of $129,244,638," a staff member identified as Jin told the council, explaining that by law adoption of the tentative budget caps the final budget so it may be equal to or lower than the adopted tentative figure but not higher. The staff member said state forms and a summary of changes were included with the resolution and that the city had received no public comments on the tentative budget to date.
The staff report reminded council that final budget approval is scheduled for July 24 and that adoption of the property‑tax levy is scheduled for Aug. 14. Council members thanked staff for work on the budget book. Council voted to approve the tentative budget cap at the meeting.
Ending: With the cap set, staff will continue work toward the July 24 final budget hearing and the August 14 levy adoption.
