Parent asks board to allow son to transfer to Summertown Elementary; board hears comment but takes no action

Hubbard told the board his son currently attends a very small community school and that Summertown Elementary would offer greater academic and extracurricular opportunities and shorter travel time — he said Summertown is about a 12‑minute drive versus an estimated 45‑minute bus ride to the assigned school. Hubbard said he was prepared to pay $2,000 out of pocket to obtain the requested placement, and he said the Summertown principal had indicated there would be room if the board permitted transfers.
Board chair and staff noted that public comment is non‑decisional and that the board would not act during the meeting. Hubbard’s petition was heard; administration and principals were urged to follow up with him and to review the district’s enrollment capacity and boundary options as part of broader growth and attendance planning already under way.
