District updates: new football field timeline, Summertown High renovations, 45,000 meals served in June

District staff and contractors gave the board an update on multiple summer projects, reporting construction progress at the new football facility and on school renovations across the district.

Zach LaRue, filling in for the contractor Doss Brothers, said irrigation and most building systems are in and the team is targeting sod installation for the new football field the week following the meeting weather permitting; the contractor said sod needs 30–45 days to root for play. Randy Fowler, project manager for Summertown High School renovations, reported ceiling grid installation and tile work progressing and said the project remains on track for the July 29 completion date, though custodial waxing and technology installations must follow floor work.

In the director’s update, Mister Atkins reported the district’s food service staff used a federal program in June to feed students, delivering about 45,000 meals over three to four weeks. Summer school concluded last week with approximately 400 students participating, administration said. Human resources reported 94 transactions since school ended, with 45 related to onboarding new hires; a retirement and a personnel replacement were announced as well.

Administration also briefed the board on ongoing studies including a growth/boundary study by MGT and on efforts to recruit bus drivers, including consideration of paid training and use of bus-advertising revenue to support recruitment and training.
