The Platte County Commission approved two Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) grant items aimed at marketing county tourism and supporting the Go North KC World Cup initiative.
The actions matter because county funds will be matched with state tourism dollars to support local chambers and main‑street groups, and the Go North KC platform is intended to boost lodging, retail and dining activity during the World Cup.
Jennifer Goren, identified as the CVB director, presented a 50/50 marketing matching grant available through the Missouri Division of Tourism. She said Riverside Chamber, Weston Chamber and Downtown Parkville Main Street are this year’s local participants and that the county’s share would be $35,000 from the CVB budget; county council and the auditor had reviewed and approved the budget impact.
Goren also presented a one‑time marketing platform development grant for Go North KC, capped at $10,000 from the state. She said the county’s budget impact for this project would be $20,800 and that the CVB will work with the state ad agency (OBP) for creative strategy, a website, branding and a logo to attract visitors during the World Cup and encourage spending at hotels, shops and restaurants.
Both items were approved on recorded roll calls that resulted in 3‑0 outcomes. Staff indicated county council and the auditor had reviewed and signed off on the proposed budget impacts for each grant.
