Sussex County applies for NJTPA grant to study River Styx Bridge in Hopatcong

The Sussex County Division of Engineering and Planning submitted a $868,000 Local Concept Development grant application to the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority on June 25, 2025. The funds would finance a planning‑level study to evaluate rehabilitation and replacement options for the River Styx Bridge in Hopatcong.

A county staff member reported the application during the board meeting and said the NJTPA will review applications over the next few months. The county noted the submission follows a prior discussion of the project at an earlier meeting.

The staff report also noted the county has completed repairs on Sussex County Bridge X30 on Libertyville Road (County Route 650) and that other paving and bridge work are ongoing as part of the 2024 pavement program.

No formal board vote on the grant application was recorded in the public minutes; the report described a staff-submitted application and the department’s expectation that NJTPA will consider it in its FY 2026 funding cycle.
