Council tables historic-preservation board appointment to allow applicant to appear

The City of Orange City council on June 24 voted to table a resolution that would have appointed Camilla Frazier to the city's Historic Preservation Board, saying councilmembers prefer to hear directly from the applicant before finalizing the appointment.
City clerk Kaylee Burleson explained the application process and noted a second seat on the board had become vacant when the board's chair resigned after the agenda packet was prepared. Burleson said advertising had been open for about three months and that staff received a single application from Camilla Frazier, who was out of state and unable to attend the meeting.
Council members said they wanted to hear from the applicant about relevant qualifications and experience before making an appointment. One councilmember observed the board's role in review of historic structures and said that experience in history, planning, real property or related fields is desirable. The council voted to table the resolution and asked staff to confirm the applicant's availability and bring the item back at a future meeting where she could appear in person.
