The La Verne Planning Commission on June 24 approved a site plan for a new 6,767‑square‑foot open‑air pavilion at the Mid South Carpenters Training Trust property at 130 Veterans Memorial Parkway.
Planning staff presented the architectural elevations and site plan, noting the pavilion would sit southeast of the existing carpenters training facility and would replace an outdoor classroom area. The applicant proposed masonry (brick) columns up to roughly 50% of the column height to comply with the Murfreesboro Road overlay district materials standard.
Sarah Tu, who identified herself in the hearing as a project representative, said the masonry will match the existing building. Commissioners asked whether equipment would be stored long term under the pavilion; Danny Womble, also present, said the pavilion would primarily shelter instructional activities (scaffolding practice and handheld tools) and that tools are not intended to be stored permanently outdoors.
Staff reported no outstanding comments on the site plan. The commission voted by voice to approve the site plan as submitted.
Next steps: applicant may move forward with permit applications consistent with the approved site plan and materials; staff will process building and trade permits per city procedures.
