Board approves contracting grounds maintenance to two vendors to supplement in‑house crews

Pearland ISD trustees voted 7–0 on June 24 to authorize contracting portions of grounds and lawn maintenance to two vendors identified through a district RFP process.
District maintenance leadership said the proposal reduces in‑house personnel pressure by using outside crews for routine grounds maintenance. The recommended approach is to split the district geographically (east/west) between two vendors, run annual maintenance operations schedules included in the contract, and preserve district staff for athletic-field care and other maintenance tasks. The administration said the contract pricing was presented as a multiyear projection but the district will sign year‑by‑year agreements with renewal options rather than an irrevocable five‑year lock.
Trustees asked about contractor interaction with students and staff. The administration said contractors will perform outdoor grounds work only, will not have regular indoor access to students, and will coordinate schedules with campus administration so outdoor work does not conflict with recess, PE or other outdoor student activities. Background checks and standard vendor requirements will apply.
Trustee Murphy moved to approve the contract awards; Trustee Carter seconded and the motion passed 7–0.
