No suicides reported this month, police give details on three recent attempted-suicide responses

San Marino Police reported no completed suicides in the past month and provided details on three recent attempted-suicide calls, Sergeant Barbosa told the Laredo Suicide Prevention Committee on Wednesday.
Sergeant Barbosa said that between Jan. 1 and June 24 the department has recorded approximately 52 attempted-suicide reports and several hundred emergency-detention calls; he also said emergency-detention reports totaled about 293 and emergency-detention calls about 365. "It's always a good sign when we don't have any suicides," he said.
Police gave three recent incident summaries: on May 28, 2025, at about 3:56 p.m. officers responded to the 11000 block of Arabia Drive and located a female who had overdosed on pills; she was detained and taken to a local hospital for further mental-health evaluation, Sergeant Barbosa said. On June 20, 2025, at about 8:34 a.m., officers responded to 200 Lower Loop and detained a 50-year-old male after an apparent overdose; he was transported to a hospital. On June 23, 2025, at about 7:40 p.m., officers responded to 5100 Lenasa Lane and detained a man who had attempted to hang himself; he was taken to a local hospital for further care.
Committee members asked whether the meeting’s heat map was organized by police districts or ZIP codes; Sergeant Barbosa said the map is displayed by police districts. "That's the way we have them," he said, referring to the department's district boundaries.
The police report was given during the committee's regular monthly meeting; committee chair Dr. Jimmy Bassan opened the meeting and confirmed a quorum before the report. The minutes from May were approved earlier in the meeting on a motion from Mr. Rankin, seconded by Miss Jacqueline.
The committee did not adopt any new police-related policy at the meeting; Sergeant Barbosa’s report was provided for situational awareness and planning by member agencies.
