The facilities and finance committee reported on June 12 that construction at the Veil-Phillips outdoor athletic facilities had encountered problems related to a demolition contractor’s elevation errors and use of improper fill material.
"There had been issues with the demolition contractor regarding elevation errors and improper fill material," a committee summary said. Committee members said remediation efforts were underway and that a change order from the Point of Beginning (POB) architectural firm was expected to address some of the corrective work.
Why it matters: committee members raised concerns about potential cost implications and accountability for contractor errors, though staff said the overall project schedule had not been significantly impacted. The committee directed the civil engineer to address clay removal and stone replacement issues and requested POB provide a change order for remediation work.
Next steps: staff will pursue the change order, the civil engineer will address site remediation specifics, and the committee asked district staff to present a three-year staffing projection and a breakdown of classroom versus non-classroom teachers in future reports.
