Board approves hiring of budgeted LPN for withdrawal management; staff praise detox team after community award

County staff asked the Clay County Board of Commissioners on June 24 to fill a budgeted licensed practical nurse (LPN) position for the county’s withdrawal management detox facility after a recent vacancy.
A county representative explained the LPN position is budgeted and could require backfill; commissioners then approved a motion “to advertise and hire [a] full-time LPN position for the withdrawal management detox facility and include backfill on that.” The motion was moved by Commissioner Ebinger and seconded by Commissioner Krabenhoft; the board voted aye and the motion carried.
Before and after the staffing motion, county leadership recognized Troy, the withdrawal management and detox leader, and his team for receiving ShareHouse’s “partner in healing” award. County staff said Troy’s team helps clients remain in the facility when waitlists for treatment exist so clients can get to treatment when openings become available. The board praised Troy’s leadership and the staff’s work to coordinate transfers to treatment providers.
County staff noted the LPN request was budgeted; commissioners asked whether backfill would be necessary and were told it might be. The board approved advertising and filling the full-time position with authority to include backfill as needed.
