The Clay County Board of Commissioners voted June 24 to authorize advertising and hiring a budgeted full-time licensed practical nurse (LPN) to fill a recently vacated position at the county’s withdrawal management (detox) facility. The motion, made by Commissioner Ebinger and seconded by Commissioner Krabenhoft, passed by voice vote.

County staff said the position was budgeted and that the action includes permission to backfill as needed. The motion directed Human Resources to proceed with recruitment and allowed department managers to fill the vacancy under the approved budget.

Separately, the board recognized Troy, leader of the county’s withdrawal management and detox program, after the program received a Partner in Healing award from ShareHouse during that nonprofit’s 50th-anniversary event. County staff said Troy and his team maintain client continuity so people can wait in the facility until a treatment opening is available, noting that discharging clients prematurely reduces the likelihood they will reach inpatient treatment.

Commissioners praised Troy and his staff for exceeding expectations in operating the new facility and for frequent on-call work to ensure clients’ continuity of care. The board also discussed a lighthearted item about delivery access to the facility after staff reported difficulties getting local pizza delivery to the address.
